Welcome to Walk Kansas!

shawnee

Walk Kansas is a team-based program that will help you and others lead a healthier life.  Join this program and

  • be more active with friends and family,
  • make better nutrition choices,
  • and walk away your stress.

Living a healthier lifestyle doesn’t mean changing everything at one time. It’s about looking at the choices you make each day, and improving those choices one step at a time. Your team-mates and captain will be there to encourage and motivate you as you take this journey together.

Walk Kansas is an opportunity to involve your entire family and community – those who live close to you and even those at a distance. Family and friends from other communities, states, and countries can participate. This is a chance to promote healthy lifestyle habits to people of all ages through the community program.

Elementary aged children can participate through our kids program.

Fruits & Veggies More Matters
Walk Kansas is based on the 2008 Physical Activity Guidelines for Americans.   The name of the program implies walking but many forms of physical activity count toward Walk Kansas miles. Nutrition information provided through this program is based on MyPyramid guidelines and Fruits & Veggies - More Matters®.

The benefits of regular physical activity and smart nutrition choices include:
  • more energy
  • a more positive outlook on life
  • better management of hypertension, diabetes, and weight
  • preventing some cancers
  • reducing stress
By developing healthy habits you will feel better, look better, and live a healthier, longer life!

Team members walked before school, during lunch hours, and after school, even doing “Walk Kansas” while attending Educational Conventions.  Team members lost weight and lowered blood pressure.
